Walking
There is a fantastic choice, including a petite randonnee which passes the door.
It is a twenty mile circular walk encompassing the two main villages in the area,
and is blessed with beautiful country side and the most spectacular views of
the Cantal mountain ranges.
We will supply you with all the information needed to ensure you enjoy your walks
to the full, as we have spent many a happy day traversing the countryside.
Cycling and Mountain Biking
There is a mountain bike centre five minutes drive from
the gite, with numerous way marked trails.
We have a selection of bikes for hire at La Vachere that
can be used for exploring the surrounding region. The
roads are quiet and it is a very pleasant twenty minute
cycle into the village, where you can relax and enjoy
a cooling drink or an ice cream at the bathing lake.
Horse riding
The equestrian centre is a fifteen minute walk or a two minute drive from La
Vachere and caters for riders of all abilities with superb cross country trekking
throughout the region.
Water Sports
The picturesque lakes and rivers of the region offer an abundance of exciting
and enjoyable opportunities, ranging from rafting and canoeing for the adventurous
to fishing or just sunbathing for the more laid back traveller.
The nearby Allier river is ideal for all these activities.
Skiing
The Auvergne region offers downhill and cross country
skiing, the nearest downhill
skiing being at Super – Besse in the Puy –de–Sancy mountain
range one hour drive from La Vachere.
You can enjoy cross country skiing at St. Germain L’Herm,
thirty minutes
drive from La Vachere.
